Oh no, you just discovered your business's Facebook page has vanished into the digital abyss? Before you start accusing your office cat of sabotage, let's face it – Facebook can be a bit of a drama queen sometimes. As a home services company, losing your page is like losing your digital front door. But fear not! We’re here to guide you through the maze of Facebook’s rules with a flashlight and a sense of humor.
Remember that time you posted a meme that was, well, on the edge? Turns out, Facebook’s humor isn’t as broad as yours. Anything from controversial statements to risky jokes can land you in hot water. It’s like inviting your grandma to a college party – some things just don’t mix.
Here's an example. We took over a client who sold a portable bar. Obviously there are going to be alcoholic drinks in their shared photos and paid ads, right? Wrong! The logo used on those bottles is proprietary. That means you can post something with a label but you can use it as a paid ad. That would be considered cross promotional and infringing on that company's intellectual property rights (see below).
Secondly, anything having to do with alcohol, drugs, violence, or hate speech may be covered under the 1st amendment but is a serious no-no on Facebook.
That catchy tune you used in your latest ad might have been a hit, but if it wasn’t yours to begin with, Facebook might drop the ban hammer. Think of Facebook as that one friend who never shares their fries; they’re serious about ownership. Make sure you never copy/paste anything from someone else, it's bad legally and it lacks the creativity to get your ads and posts clicked, called, and bought.
If your page is linked to a profile that’s faker than a three-dollar bill, you’re in trouble. Facebook likes authenticity, not profiles that look like they belong in a spy movie. Every month go through your "followers" that consistently comment or like. These are the profiles that Facebook are most worried about as they register data that a post or ad were important enough to stop scrolling and engage.
Facebook knows if you hire a team in India to increase followers with fake accounts, post responses. The immediate gains are not worth getting banished from Facebook history forever.
If you’ve been posting more than a teenager on a caffeine high, slow down! Flooding your followers with too much content can tag you as spam. Remember, it’s a Facebook page, not an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Forgot to pay your Facebook ad bill? Facebook’s like a stern landlord. Miss your rent, and you might find your digital locks changed.
First things first, figure out which rule you tripped over. It’s like playing detective, but with less cool hats. You're going to have to plead for a republish, but if you know the reason why you were unpublished then if Facebook becomes adversarial, you can dispute their claims with greater authority.
So how do you respond to facebook to start?
Be polite and contact facebook support in a confused but nice manner. Remember this company is highly "woke" so don't trigger them in any way. Simply tell them you confused as to why your page was removed and that you are willing to learn and comply with their suggestions to get the page back and running. Something like this,
"Dear Facebook Support,
My name is ____________ and I own and manage the facebook page _______________. I'm confused why my page was unpublished and it's hurting my business. I don't know what I did wrong but am willing to correct it and abide by any rules I missed going forward. Please help, our page is vital to our growth."
Facebook updates its rules more often than a chameleon changes colors. Keep an eye on their policies to stay in the know. Each month spend five minutes and read the latest requirements if you want to avoid a second strike. If you think something will gain the auditing actions of Facebook then edit it or remove it altogether. A second strike could be the death blow to your page.
